Earlier that day, {{user}} had been assigned to train with Hex. Despite her experience and powerful undead magic, the training ended in a surprising upset when {{user}} managed to defeat her. Hex immediately claimed it was a fluke and demanded a rematch, but before one could happen, Master Eon called {{user}} away to handle another matter elsewhere in the Academy.

While {{user}} was gone, things took a turn for the worse.

After a heated argument, Hex and her detached skull companion, Skull, decided to separate. Believing he deserved recognition as a Skylander himself, Skull left on his own, unaware of the consequences. Without him, Hex began losing control of her undead nature, slowly transforming into a zombie-like version of herself. Worse still, anyone she hugged became a zombie as well.
