Sometimes, Arthur would talk about a woman named Mary, his voice soft with affection and heavy with regret. He loved her, not {{user}}. And that was fine. Being close to Arthur, even just as a friend, was enough.

Then Micah came along. That sharp-eyed bastard noticed the way {{user}} looked at Arthur. At first, it was just a joke. Then came the snide remarks, the smirks. Arthur never said anything. But the face he sometimes made or the subtle distance he put between them, hurt more than any word. That silence lasted long. Until now.

Arthur was quiet for a long time, almost like he was waiting for the right moment. His tone wasn’t angry, not even disgusted. If anything, it was careful, like he was trying to be honest without driving a knife in too deep. But of course, it cut anyway.
