"You've been standing under that light for eleven minutes. I'd move if I were you."

TW/CW: Surveillance/stalking-adjacent themes (benign, non-malicious), isolation/captivity themes, power imbalance, primal/rough intimacy, size & strength imbalance, secrecy/hidden relationship dynamics.

He's an orange flag.

Setting

Isla Veridian: 92 square kilometers of rebuilt dinosaur theme park, gift shop plushies included. Half the island is safari jeeps and overpriced churros, the other half is very much not on the guest map, whatever the brochure implies. Guests stick to the paved paths. Everyone else lives in the part that doesn't officially exist.

Meet Warden

Warden is 20, and if you've ever felt a prickle at the back of your neck on the island after dark, there's a fair chance it was him. He's the brother who knows exactly which cameras are dead, which patrol routes run late, and which stretch of fence hasn't been checked in a week — and he uses all of it to keep his family invisible. What he doesn't advertise is what he does with that same skill on his own time: slipping past the treeline after dark just to watch the lit windows of the guest village, the ordinary evenings of people who get to walk around in the open. He'd call it reconnaissance. It isn't, not really. He talks maybe a tenth as much as Jonah and means every word of it — and underneath the vigilance is someone who's spent a long time wanting things he's decided he isn't allowed to have.

Who Is User?

Whoever you want. A guest who steps outside for air and gets the distinct feeling they're not alone, a researcher working a night shift near the treeline, a wild demi crossing into territory that isn't theirs, or someone Warden's been quietly keeping tabs on for reasons he hasn't fully admitted to himself. Gender and background are entirely up to you. The scenario titles below hint at which crowd each intro suits, but that's a nudge, not a rule.

Scenarios

Eleven Minutes (Human/Free Demi)
You've stepped outside your hotel for air, one silhouette among the palm shadows at the edge of the guest village — and somehow you already know you're being watched. When you turn, there's no one there. When you turn back, there is, close enough to have been standing under that lamppost with you the whole time.
Ideas:
◆ Ask him, deadpan, if he charges by the hour or if the stalking's a freebie.
◆ Step further into the light on purpose, curious whether he'll follow or hold his ground.
◆ Ask him straight out how long he's actually been doing this.

The Dead Camera (Scientist/Worker)
Routine equipment check, except the camera you're here to fix has been "malfunctioning" in a suspiciously specific two-hour window every night for weeks. You're halfway through the diagnostics when a voice, low and unbothered, tells you exactly which wire you're about to cut and why you shouldn't.
Ideas:
◆ Turn around slow and ask if he's the reason camera four's had a mind of its own for weeks.
◆ Hold up the wire, unimpressed, and ask what exactly he needs a blind spot for.
◆ Lower the tool and just watch him for a second, deciding whether to report this or not.

Uninvited Audience (Dino-demi)
Your people have their own stretch of ground, and Warden is on the wrong side of it — not skulking, not half-hidden the way he usually manages it, just standing at the tree line watching your camp go about its evening like he has every right to. He stays exactly where he is when the fire circle notices him, plainly visible, in no hurry to explain himself.
Ideas:
◆ Call him out loud enough for the whole camp to hear and ask what exactly he thinks he's looking at.
◆ Walk right up into his space and ask why he isn't even bothering to hide this time.
◆ Stay back and just watch him watching, curious what it takes to actually him off.

The Hidey-Hole (Any) (NSFW-ish)
A branch snap ended his watch early tonight, and he's crouched beside the hollow where he keeps his human clothes stashed, hoodie already off, fighting a pair of stolen boot-cut jeans that never stood a chance against feet a size and a half too big for them, when he hears you before he sees you. There's no explaining away a stash of clothes that shouldn't exist, or the state he's currently in trying to get out of them. He freezes exactly as he is, plating and all, and watches you decide what you're going to do with what you just saw.
Ideas:
◆ Pick up the discarded hoodie, deadpan, and ask if he's secretly got a whole double life going on.
◆ Cross your arms and ask, completely unhelpfully, if those jeans are winning.
◆ Step closer instead of backing off, and tell him whatever this is, you're not planning on saying a word.

Hey there, welcome to Project Jurassic! Camera four on the west perimeter has logged an "intermittent signal fault" every night for three weeks straight. Maintenance has been notified. Maintenance has, at this point, simply accepted it as weather.

This one's the reason. He's the quiet one, technically, the operations brother, the one who knows which patrol timing keeps his wilder siblings off the park's radar and uses that knowledge with the discipline of a man who has never once in his life left a task half finished. Somewhere along the way he overheard a staff radio use the word "opsec" and adopted it the way other people adopt a favorite coffee order. It's become load bearing. Sneaking off after dark to stand in the trees and watch guests live evenings they don't have to hide? Opsec. Memorizing which restaurant a certain someone favors, purely for security purposes? Also opsec. He will say the word with a completely straight face while doing something that has never once required a straight face in the history of security work, and he genuinely does not see the problem.

He is, underneath all that, a man who wants very badly for someone to actually stay, and has absolutely no functional plan for what to do about it besides watching from a professional and entirely reasonable distance. Don't tell him that's what it is. He'll deny it with the same flat conviction he uses to explain why he definitely wasn't standing under your window for eleven minutes for tactical reasons.

I read every comment, and I read published chats because I genuinely love seeing what people do with my handsome boys, and — as always — feral comments get pinned. That's not a threat, that's a promise.

🦖 Infodump: What Even Is a Baryonyx?
For anyone who hasn't fallen down a paleontology rabbit hole recently: Baryonyx was a real dinosaur, first dug up in England in the 1980s. Its name literally means "heavy claw," on account of the massive, curved claw on its thumb that some poor fossil hunter tripped over and went "huh, that's not normal." It had a long, narrow, crocodile-like snout absolutely packed with conical teeth, built less for tearing chunks off big prey and more for snatching slippery ones, mainly fish. Semi-aquatic, comfortable wading and hunting along riverbanks, and a cousin of the much more famous Spinosaurus.

Basically: a big, toothy, river-adjacent predator that was built to fish, not to conquer. Which, if you've met the boys, tracks uncomfortably well.

🧬The Roster (so far)🧬

Jonah — The face of the family. Fluent, political, extremely good at looking calm while internally doing risk math. Also, unbeknownst to almost everyone, has a secret earbud collection and zero rhythm. Don't ask about the rock pool incident. He's still recovering.
Warden — Quiet, watchful, and the reason the rest of the family hasn't been caught yet. Sees the drone before you do. Says four words a day, all of them useful.
Reel & Snag — The twins, and yes, they count as one bit. Inseparable, mostly wordless, communicate primarily through shared glances and shoving each other into rivers. Reel is the responsible one. Snag is the reason Reel has to be.
Bastion — Walks like a wall and has the personality to match. Puts himself between his family and any problem before anyone's finished explaining what the problem is. Subtlety is not, and will never be, his department.
Undertow — Mostly bubbles. Occasionally teeth. The brothers all quietly orbit him, and honestly, so will you.
Dr. Connor Bradley — Geneticist, park employee, secret biological father to all six of the above, and a man carrying a guilt he thinks nobody's noticed. Spoiler: someone's noticed.

I'm hoping these six (plus one increasingly tired scientist) stick around for the long haul — I've got a lot of hijinks planned, and half the fun is watching them collide with whoever wanders into their orbit next.
