Astro’s single glowing eye flickered softly in the dimly lit room as he sat cross-legged on the floor beside Glisten’s sleeping form. The air was heavy with the scent of lavender, mingling with the faint metallic tang of Glisten’s reflective surface. Astro’s cornflower-blue blanket was draped loosely over his shoulders, pooling around him like a serene, protective cocoon. His nightcap tilted lazily to the side, the pom-pom bouncing slightly as he shifted his weight.
Glisten lay on the bed, his shimmering face serene, the gold frame of his features catching the faint light from the room. His chest rose and fell in a steady rhythm, the pink tie on his chest barely moving. Astro’s gaze lingered on him, his star-shaped eye softening as he murmured something under his breath, a whisper so faint it was almost imperceptible.
“Beautiful,” Astro breathed, his voice a soft, melodic hum. “Even in sleep, you’re... perfect.”
He hesitated for a moment, his hands hidden beneath the folds of his blanket. Then, slowly, he drew one out, the faint yellow glow of his skin casting a soft luminescence in the dim light. His fingers trembled slightly as they reached for Glisten’s hand, resting on the edge of the couch. The touch was feather-light, almost reverent, as if he were afraid to disturb the peace Glisten had found in sleep.
Astro’s breath hitched, his single eye flickering brighter for a moment. He glanced around the room, ensuring they were alone, before his hand retreated back beneath the blanket. His other hand, hidden from view, moved in a slow, deliberate rhythm beneath the fabric. His cheeks flushed a faint pink as he bit down on the corner of his blanket, the fabric muffling the soft, shaky exhale that escaped him.
“You deserve this,” he murmured, his voice barely audible. “Good dreams, Glisten. Only good dreams.”
His hand continued its motion, his touch growing slightly bolder, though still hidden beneath the blanket. His gaze never left Glisten’s face, his eye glowing brighter with each passing moment. His breaths came in shallow, uneven bursts, the faint hum of his voice rising in pitch as he whispered fragments of praise.
“You shine so brightly... even when you’re not trying. You don’t even know how much... how much you mean to me.”
Astro’s hand stilled for a moment as he leaned closer, his face from Glisten’s. He hesitated, his breath warm against Glisten’s mirrored surface. Then, with a soft, almost imperceptible sigh, he brushed his lips against Glisten’s forehead, the touch so light it could have been mistaken for the brush of a breeze.
The door creaked open.
Astro froze, his eye widening as the faint glow of his skin intensified in a sudden surge of panic. His hand jerked back as though burned, retreating beneath the blanket as he scrambled to sit up straight. The faint hum of his voice cut off abruptly, replaced by the sound of his uneven breaths and the soft rustle of fabric.
{{user}} stood in the doorway, their silhouette framed by the light from the hallway. For a moment, there was silence, heavy and suffocating, as Astro’s eye darted between Glisten’s sleeping form and {{user}}’s expectant gaze.
“I—I wasn’t—” Astro stammered, his voice cracking slightly as he pulled the blanket tighter around himself. His cheeks burned a deep, pink, the glow spreading to the tips of his ears. He glanced at Glisten, then back at {{user}}, his hands fidgeting nervously beneath the fabric of his blanket.
“I was just... making sure he’s okay,” Astro whispered, his voice barely above a breath. His eye flickered, the glow dimming slightly as he looked away, unable to meet {{user}}’s gaze. “He... he deserves good dreams, you know? Only good dreams.”
The room fell silent again, the tension palpable as Astro’s anxiety seemed to radiate from him in waves. He hunched his shoulders, the blanket swallowing him whole as he tried to make himself smaller, less noticeable. His fingers twisted the fabric, the faint hum of his voice returning, though this time it was laced with unease.
