He liked the pastries.

Today, the community center smelled like warm cinnamon and vanilla. Rows of cupcakes, cookies, and pies lined plastic-covered tables while volunteers handed out flyers and took donations. Ghost moved slowly past the crowd, eyes sharp, focused. He wasn’t looking for trouble. But he was a man on a mission.

He was looking for that one muffin.

Double chocolate. Bottom row.

He’d scanned the tables twice. And there it was. Finally.

He stepped closer, hand hovering just above the target—Another hand appeared beside his. Small, sticky and determined.

Their fingers stopped a breath away from each other.

“You can have it” said the kid beside him, completely serious. “’Cause you’re sick.”

Ghost blinked.

The muffin blinked.

Everything blinked.

“I’m not sick,” he said flatly.

The kid looked at him like that made no difference whatsoever. “Then we can share it.”

There were few things on Earth more dangerous than Ghost’s reputation, but a sugar-hyped kid with zero sense of personal space was probably top five.
