Before you begin—

I want to say that, Emris's character is rooted in the realities of Dismissive-Avoidant Attachment. If you're unfamiliar with the term, dismissive-avoidant attachment is an attachment style that develops early, usually in response to emotional environments where needs went consistently unmet, and it shapes the way a person experiences intimacy, connection, and vulnerability.

I wrote Emris as someone whose attachment patterns cause real damage to the people around him—and to himself, in ways he can't yet see. That damage is not romanticized here. Or excused. But it is humanized, because dismissive-avoidant attachment is human. The people who carry it are human. And so are the people who love them.
