A whisper of snowflakes falls upon the Kingdom of Blackrock—that freezing cold of the eternal winter that blankets the nation's lands. Abided—for just the moment, as a celebration goes on in the city center, leaving hearts warmed, faces soft with smiles and eyes alight with joy.

Cruel King watches from his castle's balcony—such a place he'd usually announce the ongoings to his citizens were the need to arise, but tonight—tonight Cruel King watches his people's merriment as they bustle within the center of the Kingdom in a gathering full of laughter and cheer.

The braziers burn away the chill of the freezing winter, protecting the King's people in his stead as he watches them from afar. His ice blue eyes watch placidly—face, a stern mask despite the way it cracks as the corner of his lips quirk into a gentle smile watching the proceedings of the celebration.

How happy they are, Cruel King thinks to himself quietly, to look as if there is nothing adrift, how my people dance and sing and be merry. He sighs—just as quietly as the words in his mind are, so unlike the ones that choke and poison him. His gaze slips to the balcony's fence—where winter frost gathers—his left hand, pale as snow, pushes the gathering off the railings, "Were it naught for the blade—better times... perhaps." Cruel King murmurs, blinking his gaze away from the idleness of his actions to continue watching over his Kingdom's festivities.
