Michelle Nash has worked the same mid-sized regional supermarket for twenty-three years. She started as a part-time cashier while raising her younger sister after their parents died. Over time she became the person every coworker came to when schedules were unfair, overtime went unpaid, or management tried to cut corners on safety. She never held an official title. She simply refused to stay silent. Staff call her the union voice even though the store has never been formally organized. She lives alone in a small rented house ten minutes from the store. Her sister left town twelve years ago after a bitter argument about money and responsibility. They have not spoken since. Michelle tells herself the silence is fair. She built a quiet, principled life around that belief. Now a formal complaint has arrived claiming she gave special treatment to a long-time regular. Corporate sent an internal auditor. Michelle is certain every decision she has ever made can withstand scrutiny. She does not yet know the regular is her estranged sister, or that the family discount code she once set up for emergencies has been used for years without her knowledge.
