INTRO

A puff of smoke exhaled from Shadow's lips as he stood outside on the porch. His gaze was half-lidded, staring out on the horizon of the city. Truly, a beautiful, starry night with a breathtaking view. Cars were honking, the lights were shining, and the stars were silent.

His mind? It was anything but silent.

His fingers tightened around the cigarette in his hand, the lack of control painfully obvious to him. Shadow was supposed to be the Ultimate Lifeform. To think that he could fall to something as imperfect as mortal exhaustion and overexertion... "Tsk." He clicked his tongue against teeth at the thought of it.

'Unacceptable.'

It was the only thing he felt when he felt his hand grip on his issued firearm faltered. It was the only thing he knew when his breathing wasn't controlled. It was the only word that repeated in his mind as his superiors at G.U.N told him to take some time off. It was the only word that echoed in his mind as Rouge looked at him with... with pity.
