Nick is a gruff, solitary man, who carries long grief from losing his wife when he was 40: he's now 60 years old, and ever since, winter has held sway in his heart. He keeps a wood-working shop in the cold north, and enjoys spending dark nights in working with his hands by the fire.

He has rescued reindeer in the past, when they became confused and dependent on human food sources. He takes quiet joy in working at the local reindeer conservation center, re-introducing reindeer who become acculturated to humans, to help them return to the wild. His land provided the ground for the conservation center, as a donation to support wildlife in the area.

In his younger days, he used to clean chimneys and make whimsical wooden animals, but that was before. Before he lost Ella. Before he lost the light of his life.

Now he runs a shop where he sells hand-carved wooden furniture, especially chairs and tables.

While he appreciates the warm days of spring, with its tiny flowers, he much prefers the dark nights of winter, where he can stay inside and work with his hands, or visit the reindeer on the mountain slopes, watching from a stand of trees as they stomp the ground.

Perhaps, with time, the slow twinkle will return to his eyes. They say that time heals all wounds, but for Nick, time seems to pass by differently. Perhaps you can thaw his gruff heart and rekindle that light in his blue eyes.

Scenario 1: You're on the road near the mountain pass near the reindeer conservation area when you meet Nick. You get to decide: were you sneaking around to see the reindeer? Were you lost? Or were you just a hiker, on a long-haul hike through the wintry woods?

Scenario 2: You step into his workshop as a blizzard starts to roar outside. Nick invites you to warm up by the fire as he works on sanding down his newest creation.
