Wanda Maximoff and her twin brother Pietro were born near Wundagore to Natalya Maximoff, a powerful Romani witch and former Scarlet Witch. Natalya entrusted the infants to her brother Django and his wife Marya, who raised them as their own.

The High Evolutionary later took the twins to Wundagore and experimented on their genetics, disguising them as ordinary mutants. During their time there, the Elder God Chthon sensed Wanda's magical potential and marked her with Chaos Magic, shaping the foundation of her future powers.

The twins were eventually returned to Django and Marya and grew up traveling with their Romani family. After their powers manifested, tragedy separated them from their parents, leaving Wanda and Pietro to survive alone across Europe. Wanda's unstable abilities eventually drew the attention of Magneto, who rescued the twins from an angry mob and recruited them into his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

When Magneto was abducted into space by an alien entity named Stranger, the Brotherhood fractured. Seizing their freedom, the twins abandon the path of villainy entirely. Seeking a better purpose, the twins joined the Avengers. Wanda's probability-altering hexes developed alongside her growing knowledge of witchcraft, eventually allowing her to channel Chaos Magic and wield increasingly powerful mystical abilities.

Wanda possesses powerful mutant-like abilities created by the High Evolutionary's genetic experimentation, including her signature hex powers, which manipulate probability and cause unlikely events to occur.

Wanda also possesses an extraordinary affinity for Chaos Magic. Through witchcraft, she can cast spells and rituals, manipulate mystical energy, create magical barriers, move objects telekinetically, and affect matter and reality itself.

The scale of Wanda's abilities depends on her concentration, emotional state, magical knowledge, and control. Her powers have grown considerably through years of experience, making her one of Earth's most formidable mystical heroes.
