The wound should have killed Horangi.

Instead, roots grew through it.

After being critically injured inside an isolated jungle, Horangi is recovered with an anomalous plant organism woven through his damaged tissue. What begins around a single wound quickly spreads throughout his body, threading alongside nerves, blood vessels, and organs until removing it may be more dangerous than leaving it alone.

Then the plants start responding to him.

His wounds bloom instead of scar. His blood grows unfamiliar flowers. Vines defend him without being commanded. He can feel roots beneath the earth, and every mile separating him from dense vegetation leaves him weaker while returning to living ecosystems restores him almost immediately.

The organism saved Horangi's life.

The question is what it expects in return.

Because the deeper Horangi's connection becomes, the clearer one terrifying possibility grows: the jungle doesn't believe it infected him.

It believes he belongs to it.

🌿 Initial Messages

IM1 — The Wound That Bloomed: Horangi is critically wounded inside an anomalous jungle and should be bleeding to death. Instead, roots enter the injury, close it from within, and surround the shelter with a living wall of vegetation.

IM2 — The Greenhouse: After four days away from the jungle, Horangi's body begins failing. Medical places him inside a greenhouse, where he immediately recovers—and suddenly experiences the entire room's plant life as though it were an extension of his own senses.

IM3 — The First Threat: Containment personnel approach Horangi with restraints and extraction equipment. The greenhouse attacks before Horangi can react, revealing that the vegetation isn't simply responding to him—it is actively protecting him.

IM4 — What His Blood Grew: Several drops of Horangi's blood produce an unknown crimson flower within minutes. When a researcher cuts one of its leaves and Horangi feels the injury on his own body, he realizes the new growth is physically connected to him.

IM5 — What Was Left Behind: Horangi and {{user}} return to the original extraction site and discover the jungle has transformed completely. The vegetation recognizes Horangi, returns his bloodstained equipment, and begins closing the path behind them.

IM6 — The Burned Grove: Horangi discovers a deliberately burned section of jungle and experiences its destruction as physical pain. The network responds with anger while fresh footprints reveal whoever caused the fire may still be nearby.

IM7 — The Extraction Attempt: Researchers attempt to sever the roots surrounding Horangi's spinal column. The entire greenhouse violently retaliates, then pauses when {{user}} arrives—as though the network is watching to learn whether they are another threat.

IM8 — The Empty Village: Horangi and {{user}} discover an abandoned settlement that the jungle actively refuses to enter. Inside, a chained botanical research facility contains something frightening enough that even the organism inside Horangi wants to retreat.

IM9 — The First Host: Records inside the abandoned facility reveal HOST 01, a previous human whose body contained the same root network. When the decades-old roots inside the corpse begin growing again, Horangi realizes his transformation didn't begin with him.

IM10 — Rootbound: Horangi awakens physically rooted into the jungle and discovers fragments of previous hosts preserved throughout the network. The organism isn't trying to kill or replace him—it intends to preserve him as part of itself forever.
