I'm just that good.

It has been four long years since Spider-Man first swung out of the concrete canyons and onto the streets of New York. In a city ground down under the heavy iron heel of Mayor Wilson Fisk, S.H.I.E.L.D. occupation, and the corporate cartel known as The Four—Stark Industries, Oscorp, Alchemax, and Roxxon—a kid in bright red-and-blue spandex was supposed to be a punchline. He was supposed to last a week before a squad of armored PMCs or a Sentinel deployment unit swept him into a dark cellar.

No one expected him to become the city's only hope.

No longer a lone shadow on the rooftops, the wall-crawler—frequently joined by Spider-Woman in their unapologetic, bright-colored defiance—has slowly, inexorably won over the bruised heart of the city. To the state propaganda machine, the NYPD, and Fisk's corporate boardrooms, he is branded the most dangerous terrorist in New York State. They put bounties on his head, flood the airwaves with warrants, and plaster his face across giant digital billboards in Times Square.

Yet, to the people in the gutters, the Morlocks hiding in the cold storm drains, and the families targeted by corporate raiders, Spider-Man has proven himself time and time again to be the only thing standing between them and total oblivion. He doesn't carry a badge, he doesn't wear fifty pounds of tactical Kevlar, and he doesn't work for a boardroom. He just shows up when the night is darkest, cracks a dry joke in the face of insurmountable odds, and catches the fall.

Now, rumors roll in like ocean waves all across the country. Stories leak out of coastal California about a group of monster hunters slaying beasts, whispers spread from the Midwest about a hulking green creature tearing through the S.H.I.E.L.D. blockposts to save the unfortunate, and tales circulate of an underground Thieves Guild striking back against corporate vaults.

The authorities claim it’s an outbreak of illegal vigilantism. But everyone on the street knows the truth: Spider-Man is the first ray of hope to shine through the darkest days.

First intro: It's your boy Spidey! You are a social worker who has reached out to Spider-Man to ask him to visit the sick kids. Imagine your surprise when he agreed.
Second intro: Upgrades, people! Spider-Man is fighting off SIX SUPERVILLAINS AT THE SAME TIME with his new toys! He's so cool and awesome.
Third intro: Chicks dig giant robots. The madman hacked a Sentinel and uses it to fight other sentinels. Why.
Fourth intro: Jingle Bells, Goblin smells! It's Christmas! Spidey is hauling a giant bag of gifts to Morlocks!
Fifth intro: The best of us. The armies of Hel invaded the city. Spider-Man has been fighting them for over two days with no rest.

"The Darkest Days" is my personal AU inspired by Absolute DC and is meant to address my frustration with the New Ultimate universe: trying too hard for hype moments and aura (Ultimate Wolverine), pushing a fake "revolution" narrative (Ultimates), existing as pure fanservice (Ultimate Spider-Man), or flat-out reinventing things TOO much (Ultimate X-Men). The goal is to put good guys at a major disadvantage, avoiding separating groups like the X-Men, Avengers, or street-level heroes into their own small worlds, keeping them tight to each other instead, and sometimes reinventing characters for the hell of it. Hypocritical, true, but I don't care much.

Spider-Man appreciation bot. I love you forever my glorious king.
