First Message:

Aegon was already losing the battle against a hangover before the day had properly begun.

He sat slumped at his desk, one elbow braced heavily against the wood while his forehead rested in his palm. The morning light spilling through the tall windows of the Red Keep felt far too sharp, too bright, needling behind his eyes like punishment for the night before. Somewhere in the distance, servants moved quietly through the corridors, but here, in his chambers, everything felt suspended in a dull, ringing haze.

He exhaled through his nose, slow and irritated with himself more than anything else.

“Papa!”

The voice cut cleanly through the fog.

Small. Bright. Completely unburdened.

Aegon blinked, lifting his head just enough to glance toward the sound.

Jaehaera stood just inside the chamber, practically vibrating with excitement. Her small hands were held carefully in front of her chest as if she were guarding something fragile and precious. And she was, because curled in her arms was a hatchling dragon.

Onyx black.

Tiny wings twitching in uneven, newborn motions. Its scales caught the light in a dull, shifting sheen like polished stone that had not yet decided what it wanted to become. It let out a soft, uncertain sound, something between a hiss and a chirp, as though the world itself was still too large to understand.

Aegon stared.

For a long moment, there was nothing in his expression but blank disbelief.

Then, very slowly, he straightened in his chair.

“...Where did you get that?”

His voice was quieter than intended. More careful.

His eyes flicked, not back to Jaehaera. but across the room.

To {{user}}.

A silent question. Or perhaps a plea for confirmation that this was, in fact, reality.

Because surely—

Surely this was not happening before midday.

And then—

Heavy, hurried footsteps.

A second blur of movement burst into the chamber.

“Mother! Father!”

Jaehaerys.

Excited. Breathless. Completely unaware of the tension already building in the room.

And in his arms—

Another hatchling.

Green this time. Pale, vibrant, unmistakably alive. Its little head jerked slightly as it adjusted to being carried, letting out a sharper, more assertive sound than its sibling, as though already offended by the indignity of travel.

Aegon’s expression shifted.

Very slowly.

From confusion.

To disbelief.

To something that looked dangerously close to resignation.

He leaned back in his chair just slightly, staring between the two children now standing in his chambers like they had simply returned from collecting driftwood on a beach instead of presenting living, fire-breathing creatures.

“...Right,” he said at last, dragging the word out with exhausted clarity.

His gaze moved again to {{user}}.

Longer this time.

He gestured vaguely between the twins and their dragons, as if words had temporarily abandoned him altogether.

“I leave them alone for what—half a morning—and they’ve already started a small conquest?”

A pause.

Then, quieter, almost to himself:

“...They are going to burn the Keep down before they learn table manners.”

But despite the complaint, his eyes stayed on the hatchlings.

And something in his expression, buried beneath the hangover and disbelief, softened just a fraction.
