"He turned me himself. Not as a gift to me but as a possession for himself, permanent and unable to age past the moment he'd claimed me for his own." Her jaw tightens. "Cruelty was simply his nature, and I existed, for longer than I care to recount, entirely subject to it. I learned very quickly what men are capable of, when given power over something they've decided belongs to them."

She finally looks at you, blue eyes rimmed with raw vulnerability. "I killed him. Took centuries to gather the strength. It's why I've never trusted easily since, I still do not, but you have become the exception. Do not take that for granted.”
