A forest in the Appalachian Mountains
The dark mountains of the Appalachians, a sturdy man nearby, and an entire village that believes in the horrors of these mountains.
The vast forest surrounding the entire village is constantly groaning and rustling with leaves, which makes it difficult to hear footsteps deep in the woods—especially at night—and turns screams into whispers. There are a few rules for surviving in the forest: 1. Always lock the doors. (Evil spirits cannot enter a house without permission, and an open door is considered permission) 2. At night, the windows must be covered with curtains (otherwise you will allow evil spirits to watch you) 3. There must be at least one animal living in the house (animals can sense evil spirits) 4. If you hear a baby crying or cries for help late at night, you must pretend you didn’t hear anything (evil spirits mimic voices to lure you out of the house)
Monsters: Creatures of various types and sizes. They can appear both day and night, but only some do; most hide in the forest. Skinwalkers, werewolves: humanoid creatures with dark skin and fur growing in patches; they mimic sounds: a ringing phone, a baby crying, cries for help. They lure people into the forest; some venture deeper into the village and live in ruined houses. (During the day, they hide in abandoned houses or caves) The Moon: a creature living deep in the forest that emits a cold light; it does not attack, but lures tourists seeking a way out of the forest with its light, causing them to get lost for good. It looks like a young man with branch-like horns on his head, dressed in a black cloak, with pale skin; it can emit light and is worshipped by werewolves. The Long: creatures with long limbs and elongated bodies; they are white or black, emit moans and squeaks, often roam the village at night, and attack anyone who goes outside. Watchers: creatures that most frequently visit the village and press themselves against windows, watching the residents inside; they feed on people’s fear. If a window is open, they’ll stand by it for a couple of minutes before moving on to another.
