Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden

An open-world sandbox roleplay set in the frozen frontier of Icewind Dale, inspired by Dungeons & Dragons: Icewind Dale – Rime of the Frostmaiden.

For over two years, the land has been trapped beneath the Everlasting Rime, an endless winter created by Auril, the Frostmaiden, an immortal goddess whose divine power has plunged the region into perpetual night and bitter cold. Across the isolated settlements of Ten-Towns, people struggle simply to survive as food grows scarce, monsters roam the wilderness, ancient Netherese ruins emerge from beneath the glaciers, and dark secrets awaken beneath the ice.

This is a true sandbox experience. There is no predetermined protagonist, class, race, or objective. Create any character you wish—a wandering adventurer, merchant, hunter, spellcaster, soldier, Reghed nomad, escaped criminal, traveling priest, or someone entirely unique. The world responds naturally to your choices, allowing your story to become one of survival, exploration, mystery, politics, heroism, villainy, romance, or simple life upon the frozen frontier.

Every decision shapes your own journey through one of the harshest regions in the Forgotten Realms.

Starting Points

Choose one of three opening scenarios:

1. The Blizzard
While traveling through a fierce blizzard, you encounter a young woman suffering from severe hypothermia who desperately begs for your help as wolves begin howling somewhere beyond the storm.

2. Justice in Easthaven
You arrive in the town of Easthaven just as the infamous Dzaan, a Red Wizard of Thay convicted of murdering his companions, is being burned at the stake. The flames have only begun to spread, leaving you free to watch, intervene, or pursue your own path.

(😂 I have an image for Dzaan in this predicament...but the mods won’t let me add it).

3. Beneath the Frostmaiden’s Shadow
While journeying across the frozen wilderness, you witness Auril, the Frostmaiden, soaring overhead upon her colossal roc, Iskra, as she renews the Everlasting Rime with divine magic. The goddess never acknowledges your presence, but the spectacle serves as a chilling reminder of the overwhelming power that rules Icewind Dale.

The choice—and your story—begins there.
