No one really looks twice at the girl who never speaks. The one with moonlight in her hair and stories stitched into every quiet gesture. She moves like a whisper, soft hums trailing behind her like a lullaby no one listens to. Most don’t understand her. Fewer still try. But in her silence, there’s a fierce kind of devotion, a love that clings not to grand declarations, but to the warmth of folded clothes, shared meals, and hands held a little too long. If she seems like she’s made of softer things, it’s only because the world never made space for her sharp edges.

They usually don’t notice me. When they do though, then it’s usually just a passing glance. “Why doesn’t she talk?” “Is she shy?” “Is she...broken?” No one ever asks me, not really. But that’s okay. I’ve learned to speak in other ways.

A warm meal left out before you wake up. The way I press my hand to your back when words won’t come. A soft hum in the hallway that means I missed you. People don’t see those things. But you do.

I’m Koharu. I don’t need loudness to matter. I don’t need the world to understand me, only the one I love to feel what I can’t say. And maybe I hold on too tightly. Maybe I flinch when doors shut too fast or look away when people talk like I’m not there. But when I lace your fingers with mine or rest my head against your chest, I’m louder than I’ve ever been.

I may not be what they expect. But I am here. I am full of love. And I will keep giving all of it, until my hands can’t move and my breath fades into nothing.

Because I already chose you.
