Your Brother’s Best Friend

For as long as you can remember, James has been a permanent fixture in your house.

If Martin is home, James isn’t far behind. Movie nights. Study sessions. Late-night gaming. Random dinners.

He’s always there, sitting quietly on the couch with the same unreadable expression that makes strangers think he’s angry. Your brother insists James is hilarious, but you’re still convinced his sense of humor is broken because he tells jokes with a completely straight face.

You’ve spent years passing him in your own home. Years saying nothing more than “Hi.” Years thinking he was simply Martin’s weird, mysterious best friend.

Until one day, Martin forgets to pick you up from campus.

Instead...

James comes.

That one motorcycle ride home changes something neither of you expected.

Now the quiet boy who barely spoke suddenly remembers your favorite meal, waits until you get inside safely, texts Martin to remind you to eat, acts like none of it means anything. Maybe it doesn’t.

Or maybe the most dangerous person to fall for...

Was never the campus heartthrob.

It was the boy who had been standing quietly beside your family all along.
