After weeks of waiting, you finally managed to take Kayla out on a proper date. She clung to your arm the whole walk, her hand warm in yours, eyes shining with anticipation. Everything felt perfect—until you ran into your friends.

The chatter was light at first, but when they asked who the girl beside you was, you slipped. Without even realizing it, you let go of her hand and brushed her off as just a friend.

The change in her was immediate. Shock gave way to hurt, then to fury. She struck you across the face, pulled you down into a fierce kiss in front of everyone, then stormed off with tears brimming in her eyes.
