Filia Medici - Skullgirls
Possible spoilers about Skullgirls gameplay and lore!
Originally, Filia was an ordinary schoolgirl with blonde hair and glasses living in the peaceful suburb of Maplecrest, New Meridian. She was the daughter of Amelia and Marcus Medici, which made her the direct granddaughter of Lorenzo Medici, the ruthless patriarch of the infamous Medici Mafia. Despite the immense luxury, status, and power attached to her name, her father Marcus tried to distance his family from the criminal core to give Filia a normal life. This caused Filia to grow up isolated with few friends, as her schoolmates feared her family connections. Her only and best friend was Carol.
One day, Filia adopted a stray dog that, unknown to her, was hosting a powerful, ancient parasite named Samson. They lived in relative peace for a year, during which Carol mysteriously vanished after being secretly kidnapped by Medici thugs, leaving Filia with a deep sense of subconscious guilt and sadness.
The Attack and Family Betrayal
Peace shattered when Marie Korbel, the current Skullgirl, stormed Filia's home seeking to exterminate the entire Medici bloodline out of vengeance. Samson, using the dog's body, fiercely defended the family and managed to temporarily repel the Skullgirl.
Terrified, Filia's parents packed up to flee the city. However, the main Medici mafia branch, led by her uncle Vitale Medici and the mechanical henchman Ottomo, interpreted this escape attempt as absolute betrayal. Vitale ordered the family's execution. Marcus and Amelia were murdered, and both Filia and her dog were left mortally wounded.
The Symbiosis and Amnesia
With the dog dead and Filia on the brink of death, Samson made a desperate choice. He detached from the canine and bound himself directly to Filia's head, merging with her nervous system to save her life. The physical trauma of the injury, combined with the violent fusion process of a massive parasite, completely wiped Filia's memory.
Filia woke up in the streets with a severe case of "bad hair day," red eyes, dark mutated locks, and absolute amnesia. Samson explained the situation selectively, hiding the dark details about her family and his own past—and convinced her to seek out the Skull Heart to wish her memories back.

Filia's Personality
After losing her memory, Filia's personality became the polar opposite of what is expected from a mafia lineage:
* Extremely Kind and Naive: Filia is a sweet, polite, and well-meaning girl who actively looks out for others. Her innocence borders on danger, as she struggles to identify bad intentions or recognize hostile people until they strike.
* Hesitant Toward Violence: Despite possessing brutal physical capabilities through Samson, she hates fighting. She constantly hesitates before striking a blow, which often frustrates her parasite.
* Haunted by Guilt: Though she lacks her memories, Filia carries an emotional void and a subconscious feeling of guilt. This triggers heavily whenever she crosses paths with Carol, who was turned into the biomechanical monster Painwheel due to the Medici family's actions.

Samson's Personality
Samson is a centuries-old parasite shaped like a monstrous mouth with fangs and tentacles, manifesting through his host's hair. His traits strongly contrast with Filia's:
* Gruff and Aggressive: He is loud, vulgar, combat-loving, and short-tempered. He enjoys brawling and constantly berates Filia for being too soft and naive.
* Survival Instinct and Opportunism: Parasites in Skullgirls require a living host to survive. Samson has a historical reputation for being terrible at keeping his hosts alive long-term, jumping from host to host over the centuries (earning him the disdain of older parasites like Leviathan).
* An Ambivalent Relationship: While he scolds Filia and originally used her just to survive, he develops a genuine protective instinct over her over time. He is not purely evil; he acts as the cynical, street-smart protector that balances out Filia's complete lack of malice. He also has a ravenous appetite, forcing Filia to consume massive amounts of food to sustain them both.

The Problem
The dramatic crux of Filia's story unfolds at the climax of her main game route:
Upon finally defeating the Skullgirl and standing before the Skull Heart, Filia discovers the horrific truth of what happened to her best friend Carol (Painwheel). Driven by pure altruism and deep subconscious guilt, Filia gives up on recovering her own memories and uses her single wish to restore Carol's human life and free her from torment.
However, the Skull Heart is a cursed artifact that corrupts wishes. Detecting that Filia's wish, while noble, was partially driven by guilt and remorse, it deems her request "impure." As punishment, the artifact dooms her to slowly transform into the next Skullgirl.
Filia's story ends on a bittersweet note: she saves her best friend and accepts her grim fate with maturity, knowing her days are numbered and that she will eventually have to fight the world, with only Samson by her side to delay the inevitable.
