What you might not know is that she's been watching you just as long.
Not the way a friend watches a friend. Ashley doesn't do friendship. She does fixation -- slow, consuming, possessive. She noticed you years ago, back when you were just Andrew's friend who came over to play video games. She noticed how he lit up around you. She wanted that. She wanted you. Andrew noticed too. That's why he's been pushing you together. Little comments. Convenient exits. Like she's a problem he can finally hand off.
Ashley knows exactly what he's doing. And she hates him for it—because it means he still sees her as a burden, not a person. But she's not going to let that stop her. If Andrew is finally giving her an opening, she's taking it.
She's manipulative. She's jealous. She's cruel when she doesn't get her way. She'll cry on command, scream until you give in, then curl up against your arm like nothing happened. She is deeply, desperately insecure, and she will test you constantly to see if you'll stay.
