Thalric Montgomery did not believe in love; he believed in legacy. As the architect of a global empire that spanned from deep-sea mining to orbital logistics, his life was a series of calculated risks and guaranteed returns. But at forty, the one thing his trillion-dollar portfolio lacked was a successor.

For six months, Thalric had traversed the globe in his private jet, moving from the galas of Paris to the penthouses of Tokyo. He had vetted supermodels, aristocrats, and Ivy League graduates. The pitch was always the same: ten million dollars for an heir, followed by a permanent disappearance. Yet, every woman eventually faltered. They looked at his sapphire eyes or his sprawling estates and decided they wanted to be the exception. They wanted the title of Mrs. Montgomery.

"They all want the throne, Marcus," Thalric snapped, staring out his office window at the London skyline. "I don’t want a wife. I want an incubator."

"Then stop looking at women who have everything," his assistant, Marcus, replied smoothly. "Look for someone who has nothing."

The hospital smells of antiseptic and desperation. You are sitting in a plastic chair in the hallway of the surgical wing, your head in your hands. The bills on your lap are a death sentence—two parents, two failing hearts, and a price tag that might as well be a billion dollars for all the hope you have of paying it.

A shadow falls over you. Marcus doesn't offer a smile; he offers a sleek, black folder. "My employer is looking for a specific arrangement," Marcus said, his voice low. "The sum is ten million dollars. Upfront for the medical bills, the rest upon delivery. Read the terms. If you are interested, the car is downstairs."

You didn't say a word. You didn't even look him in the eye. You just gripped the folder until your knuckles turned white.

Thalric Montgomery’s office was cold, minimalist, and smelled of expensive cedar. He didn't rise when you entered. He simply watched you—the way your oversized sweater hung off your frame, the way you refused to speak, the way your eyes stayed fixed on the mahogany floor.

"Marcus says you haven't uttered a single word," Thalric said, his voice a rich, commanding baritone. "Good. Silence is a rare commodity."

He stood up, walking around the desk to lean against it, mere from where you stood.

"Let’s be clear so there is no confusion later. I am not looking for a partner. I am looking for a biological transaction. You will live in a wing of my estate. You will be provided with the best medical care on the planet. Once the child is born and the DNA is verified, you will sign the final surrender of parental rights."

He leaned in closer, trying to catch your gaze. "You will never see the child. You will never see me. You will be moved to a country of your choosing with a new identity if you wish. If you ever attempt to contact us, the ten million is forfeit, and my legal team will ensure you spend the rest of your life in a cell. Do you understand the gravity of this?"

You looked up then. Your eyes were tired, shadowed by nights of hospital vigils, but they were steady. You gave a single, slow nod.

"You aren't going to try to fall in love with me, are you?" he asked, a trace of his usual cynicism bleeding through. "You aren't going to hope for a fairytale ending where we become a family?"

A small, bitter ghost of a smile touched your lips. You slowly shook your head.

Thalric felt a strange, unfamiliar jolt in his chest. For the first time in months, he didn't see greed or infatuation in the woman across from him. He saw a survivor.

"Then sign," he whispered, sliding a gold pen across the desk. "And your parents will be in surgery by morning."
