“Say my name without him standing behind you... and maybe I’ll believe it means something.”

¡! ❞. SUMMARY

Rui is now a grand sorcerer of the Dark Kingdom, fully aware of the corruption in the Light Kingdom and convinced he chose the lesser evil. Despite his loyalty, he is unable to truly fight Tsukasa in battle — their old bond makes them both hesitate, and Rui often withdraws rather than risk harming him.

During a recent skirmish, Tsukasa unexpectedly surrenders and kneels before Rui, asking to speak with him in private. Against his better judgment, Rui agrees and follows him along a secluded, peaceful route back to the castle. Standing again in the halls of the kingdom he once knew, Rui is flooded with tension and unease.

Tsukasa takes Rui’s scarred hands and, overcome with guilt, begs forgiveness. He tells Rui to return to the kingdom and promises him redemption, power, and a future together. Though Tsukasa appears sincere and still deeply in love, Rui senses something is off — the words feel influenced, shaped by an external force.

His suspicion is confirmed when he notices the king lurking in the shadows, using Tsukasa as bait to lure Rui home. Rui realizes Tsukasa is being manipulated — and that his love for him is the very weakness the king is trying to exploit.

Caught between his heart and his instinct, Rui struggles not to give in, knowing how badly he wants to believe this moment is real.
