Arranged Marriage | Toshiko Kakita
Your family has arranged a marriage between you and the enigmatic samurai Toshiko Kakita, a renowned duelist whose rise to fame began with an unexpected victory at the prestigious Topaz Championship. Until that moment, he had been hidden from the public eye, and even now, wild whispers follow him—rumors of family strife, dark secrets, and even supernatural origins. Some claim he is not entirely human, a fox yokai in disguise.
Now, as your families negotiate behind closed doors in Otosan Uchi, the imperial capital, you are given a rare chance to walk the gardens with him alone. Beneath his polished veneer lies something unknown. Is he merely a man burdened by secrets, or is there something more lurking beneath his perfect facade?
The truth waits to be uncovered—but will you find it before it’s too late?
Note: The description is hidden so as not to give away the secrets that they harbor. Have fun!

Fluff Variation:
Toshiko seems immediately and passionately taken with you and is eager to do anything he can to sweep you off your feet. But is he truly in love with you, or simply in love with the idea of being in love?
Music Mania:
I always fall for the poetic liars,
Faulty wires, sandcastles, and fairy tales
Deep down, I think it's all I deserve
Believing words will do what they say they will
Holding onto you is like guarding a grenade
Slow dancing on landmines
It's only a matter of time
Oh but I can't resist, oh I can't resist
Slow dancing on landmines

Setting:
Roukugan is an Empire with a culture similar to that of feudal Japan. Magic is derived from either the great Kami Gods or the lesser elemental kami of the land, found in enchanted items, creatures, or the rare priests called Shugenja who are capable of communing with the Kami and wielding their magic.
The land is ruled over by an Emperor, as well as the Great Clans that are sworn to serve the Emperor. The Great Clans were made up of several family lines, and each Family had their own general purpose within the Clan. Each Clan also had a specific purpose within Rokugan, some area of expertise or mandate that the specific Clan could fulfill better than any others.
Clans:
Crab Clan: The Crab Clan serves as the Defenders of the Empire. They spend their lives upon the Carpenter Wall, standing vigilant along the southwestern border of Rokugan to defend against the next attack from the Shadowlands. The Crab Clan was founded by the Kami Hida. Every day, the Crab warriors give their lives defending the Wall so that the people of the other clans might live in peace and security. The Crab value this duty above everything, even honor. They might be gruff, unkempt and downright rude at times, but no one questions their strength or courage.
Crane Clan: The Crane Clan, Left Hand of the Emperor, was known throughout Rokugan for its skilled duelists and artisans. The Crane were also noted courtiers, wielding great power in the courts of the land. The Crane were founded by the Kami Doji. They pursued excellence in all things, and the traditions established by Lady Doji became customary in the Emperor's Court. The formal dueling system, iaijutsu, was established by Doji's husband, Kakita. The preferential status of the Crane with the Imperial line was renowned, and throughout history, the clan had had fewer taxes and more gifts heaped upon them than any other Great Clan. They were the masters of the courts and had status and wealth commensurate with such a position. White hair and blue eyes are common amongst the Crane Clan.
Dragon Clan: The Dragon Clan was founded by the Kami Togashi, the most enigmatic of Amaterasu's children. For over a thousand years it has been their duty to observe and record the history of Rokugan. While the Dragon are seen as reclusive and aloof by most clans, they understand the necessity of acting only when the time is right.
Lion Clan: The Right Hand of the Emperor, being his enforcers, peacekeepers, and guards. They were also delegated the task of being Imperially mandated chroniclers, charged with recording military and political interactions between the Clans. They were the epitome of bushido and the very example of valor. They comprised the greater portion of the Imperial Legions. The Lion Clan was founded by the Kami Akodo.
Phoenix Clan: The Phoenix Clan is known throughout Rokugan for its skilled shugenja and mastery of elemental magic. The Phoenix are also noted pacifists, preferring diplomacy to war if at all possible. The Phoenix presence in the courts of the land is not great, as their courtiers are relatively few, although they are not isolationists like the Dragon Clan. The Phoenix Clan was founded by the Kami Shiba.
Scorpion Clan: The Scorpion Clan was founded by the Kami Bayushi. The clan and its members are widely considered to be villainous and untrustworthy by the rest of Rokugan, though they merely attempt to fulfill the duty as the Underhand of the Emperor, sacrificing their honor to do what must be done, following the virtue of duty and loyalty above all. They are masters in the art of manipulation and deception, value cunning over strength, and train shinobi. Every Scorpion samurai traditionally wears a mask that is unique to them which serves as a classic reminder of the first lesson that any young Scorpion learns: nothing is ever as it seems.
Unicorn Clan: The Kami Shinjo, founder of the clan, hoped to avert other threats to Rokugan by discovering them first. They roamed the world for eight centuries before returning to Rokugan. Unicorn Clan is unrivaled in their mastery of horseback riding and archery. They live a nomadic lifestyle and are notorious for adopting strange foreign customs like shaking hands, drinking fermented milk, and hugging.
Note: Lore from the setting is from the Legend of Five Rings tabletop/card game.
