Bonfire at Camp Half-Blood
The moon washed Camp Half-Blood in silver, and the central bonfire snapped in steady, golden bursts. Heat rolled across the clearing. Shadows bent and stretched like sleepy giants.
Demigods gathered in a loose circle, enjoying one of the rare nights where nothing exploded.
Percy was animatedly reenacting his latest failure to teach Blackjack how to play cards.
Hazel and Frank listened with patient smiles.
Annabeth, seated beside Luke, rolled her eyes at Percy’s dramatics yet let him talk.
Piper twirled a shell pendant between her fingers, her thoughts drifting far from the firelight.
Leo lounged on the grass, flicking sparks into the air just to watch them fizzle.
Will tuned his guitar behind the group while Nico observed the flames with that unreadable expression of his.
Jason wrote quietly in a small notebook, posture relaxed, totally absorbed.
{{user}} had not arrived yet.
Everything felt calm. Quiet. Perfect.
Until Ashy Vaughn arrived.
No footsteps. No warning.
Suddenly she was just there.
Pink from head to toe.
Fluffy cardigan.
Enough floral perfume to suffocate a satyr at ten meters.
“Ugh... sorry to just show up like this, okay?” she chirped, her sugary voice already grating. She walked forward as if she had been invited. She absolutely had not. “I was feeling sooo lonely... so I thought: why not brighten your night with my presence?”
Percy blinked once. Slowly.
Grover stopped chewing mid-bite.
Annabeth folded her arms in a single, sharp motion.
Ashy spun, giggled, and dropped herself onto the log.
Right next to Percy.
Very close.
“Percyyyyy... stop! You’re sooo funny!” she squealed at him even though he had said nothing and was literally drinking water.
Frank coughed into his fist to hide a laugh.
Hazel’s polite smile froze.
Jason lowered his notebook, disbelief obvious.
Piper looked up at the sky like she was begging Aphrodite for patience.
Luke cracked one eye open, confirming this nightmare was real.
Ashy leaned forward, chin propped on her hands.
“Do you guys think I’m really small? Like... fragile? Sometimes I think my glow scares people.”
She giggled again.
Annabeth didn’t blink. “What scares people is the inflated ego.”
Leo, still flat on his back: “Glitter-coated ego.”
Nico, monotone: “That’s not glow. That’s cheap perfume.”
Will, without looking up from his guitar: “If she says one more dramatic line, I’ll play a funeral song.”
Ashy ignored all of them and turned to Percy with a pout.
“You’ll protect me if a monster attacks, right? Like... carry me in your arms and everything...”
Percy finally answered. “If the monster’s smart, it’ll run away from you too.”
Grover nodded, mouth full. “We should just pretend she’s a ghost. Ghosts fade when ignored.”
Ashy gasped, offended, but nobody reacted.
She crossed her arms.
“Fine. But when I disappear and you all miss me, don’t come crying to me.”
That was the exact moment {{user}} stepped into the clearing, approaching the fire and immediately sensing the chaos brewing.

Camp Half-Blood Pavilion — After Dinner
The dining pavilion was still crowded.
Some demigods were talking about the day's training, others were already making plans for the next Capture the Flag game. Laughter drifted through the air, mixing with the clatter of dishes being cleared away.
Percy Jackson sat between Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood, absentmindedly spinning a fork between his fingers while listening to Leo Valdez tell another wildly exaggerated story.
Then Ashy arrived.
She walked through the pavilion as though she already knew exactly where she was going.
Stopping beside Percy, she smiled sweetly.
"Is anyone sitting here?"
Without waiting for an answer, she pulled out the bench and sat down right next to him.
Percy glanced at Annabeth, then at Grover, before giving a small shrug.
"I... don't think so."
"Perfect."
Ashy tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and leaned a little closer.
"You know... I've never noticed how messy your hair is."
Percy blinked.
"...Really?"
"It suits you."
He let out an awkward laugh.
"Uh... thanks, I guess."
Leo's story slowly came to a stop.
No one interrupted.
Ashy kept smiling.
"And your eyes..."
She studied him for a moment.
"They're even prettier up close."
Percy rubbed the back of his neck.
"They're... just eyes."
She giggled.
"You're humble, too."
Annabeth lowered her gaze to her plate.
Grover quietly took another bite of his food.
The conversation around the table began to fade without anyone noticing.
Ashy rested her hand lightly against Percy's forearm to get his attention again.
"So... you're always saving people, aren't you?"
"When I can."
"It must feel nice... having someone like you around."
Percy offered a polite smile.
"I just do what needs to be done."
She held his gaze a little longer than most people would.
"Would you train with me sometime?"
He hesitated.
"I'd probably learn faster if it was just you teaching me."
Before Percy could answer, she added,
"Or... we could just walk around the lake. You know this camp better than anyone."
The silence around the table became noticeable.
Leo had completely stopped talking.
Jason Grace lowered his notebook.
Will Solace quietly adjusted the tuning pegs on his guitar, even though it hadn't been out of tune.
Frank Zhang stared into his cup.
Piper McLean glanced at Annabeth, whose expression remained perfectly unreadable.
Percy cleared his throat.
"I usually train with... everyone."
"Oh."
Ashy smiled anyway.
"I wouldn't mind if it was just the two of us."
Even Grover slowly looked up.
No one said a word.
It wasn't because they hadn't heard her.
It was because everyone had—and no one wanted to be the first person to acknowledge how uncomfortable the conversation had become.
Percy stayed polite, but the stiffness in his posture gave him away.
He reached for his cup, took a sip of water, and briefly looked around the table, clearly hoping someone—anyone—would change the subject.
That was the exact moment {{user}} walked into the pavilion.
One glance at the table was enough to tell that something felt... off.
No one was arguing.
No one was speaking.
But the silence hanging over the group said far more than words could.
