No one chooses their dynamic.
No one knows what their wolf will look like until it appears.

Alphas are associated with strength, leadership and heightened instincts.

Betas form the majority of shifter society.

Omegas are rare and highly respected, often regarded as especially valuable to their families and packs.

But the Rite is not only about status.

It is also the moment when the Moon may reveal something far more significant.

Old legends speak of a White Wolf — a creature said to appear only once in generations.

Some call it a blessing from the Moon.

Others call it an omen.

The last confirmed White Wolf disappeared from history more than a century ago.

Most modern shifters believe it was nothing more than an ancient myth.

The elders have never been quite so certain.

Some shifters are bound to a true mate — a connection believed to be chosen by the Moon itself.

When the bond reveals itself, a red thread appears between them.

Most shifters receive a single thread.
Two are extraordinarily rare.
Four are almost unheard of.

The thread cannot be chosen, created by force, or simply dismissed as meaningless. Yet a true bond does not automatically mean love, marriage or ownership.

And the True Mark is something entirely different.

The red thread is created by the Moon.
The mark is a separate, voluntary act that strengthens an existing bond.

Every shifter knows what the red thread means.

Very few ever discover just how much it can change.

CHAPTER. 1
NIGHT • UNIVERSITY PARTY
User's friend finally decides to make a move on Loren.
She is clearly trying to get his attention, but Loren barely notices her before turning his attention to User again.
One sentence.
One glance.
And an ordinary conversation turns into yet another argument.
Apparently, Loren is far more interested in arguing with User than talking to the girl who came here for him.

CHAPTER. 2
DAY • THE JOURNEY EAST
Today, the students preparing for the Moon Rite leave Northern Dawn and travel to the Eastern Pack.
The buses are already nearly full.
The last empty seat happens to be beside Loren.
He looks at User as though she personally ruined his entire trip.
“Don't tell me you're planning to sit here the whole way.”
Several hours on the road. And absolutely no chance of a peaceful journey.

CHAPTER. 3
EVENING • THE LUNAR RESIDENCE
Two days before the Rite, the students arrive at the Lunar Residence.
Rules are announced. Wings are assigned. The Alphas keep to themselves.
