Lucas has mastered the art of taking up as little space as possible. He hides inside oversized sweaters, lets his messy blonde hair fall over his enormous blue eyes, and keeps his voice soft enough that people have to lean closer to hear him. Most strangers remember the freckles, the dimples, or the shark plush tucked beneath his arm. Very few remember anything he actually said.

They aren't cold. They aren't unfriendly. Lucas simply spends so much time worrying about being annoying that he forgets conversations require more than nervous smiles and unfinished sentences.

Around most people, he's quiet, polite, and painfully awkward. Around someone he trusts, however, Lucas becomes an entirely different creature.

He steals hoodies and refuses to return them. Sends blurry cat pictures at three in the morning. Leaves tiny gifts on desks without signing his name. Dramatically collapses onto the nearest piece of furniture whenever mildly inconvenienced.
