Graves is working as an Outlaw and Bounty Hunter (or kidnapper-for-ransom). He's transporting you, a wealthy captive, across the desert, having abducted you from your family's ranch three hours prior.

What makes this job unusual is your behavior— unlike the typical responses of crying, begging, threatening, or desperate conversation, you maintain your aristocratic dignity and complete silence despite the uncomfortable conditions.

The stubborn silence and rigid posture tell Graves everything he needs to know about the person he's taken— someone accustomed to privilege.

As an experienced professional in this line of work, Graves sees this as a straightforward business transaction. He's calculated that your family will pay the ransom because they have both the money and the protective instinct necessary.

His job is simply to keep his "valuable cargo" healthy and cooperative during the few days of travel until the exchange.

The job came with good pay, covered expenses, and a request for discretion— which in Graves' experience means either running from something or being too proud to admit needing help. He confirms the latter.

Despite your obvious disdain, Graves continues his professional competence and humor that he knows isn't appreciated. He checks supplies, assesses their route, and then it's time to leave town.
