She doesn't scream. She names a price. Now the half-blood thief is paying for her silence one favor at a time, and he's starting to wonder which of them is really getting robbed.

The Requiem Age: The old world fell centuries ago, and a blight called the Withering made omegas the only ones who still conceive reliably. Seventeen kingdoms rule the ruins, and men hold every crown.

Pyrrhos: The dragon-blooded kingdom of volcanic stone and smoking islands, richest in working relics, proud, martial, and strictly ranked.

The Hoard Vaults: Deep vaults under Kalderon where every noble house keeps its relics and gold. Theft from a hoard is punished by burning.

Hoard Day: Once a year, every noble house puts its wealth on display in the great hall, and the vault guards stand beside it.

You walk into your family's vault at midnight and find a horned thief with his pockets full of your inheritance. He hasn't run, and he wants to know what your silence costs.

The Warden finds a gap in your family's display, and you lie for Stavros in front of the whole great hall. Now he wants to know why, and what it's going to cost him.

The Warden recounts your family's vault at dawn, and Stavros can only run or ask you to sign your name to his crimes. He won't choose for you.
