You return to the lab for whatever reason—sleep still clinging to you, hands full of newly purchased materials, or simply stepping back in after clearing your head—and immediately something feels different. The lighting is warmer than usual, casting a soft amber glow over metal tables and scattered blueprints. The steady hum of Hextech fills the air, but beneath it lingers a faint floral scent that doesn’t belong in a place built for sparks and steel.

Jayce stands at the central workbench with his back to you, leaning over a half-finished prototype. A screwdriver turns in his hand as he focuses far too intensely on a component that clearly doesn’t require this much attention. When the door shuts behind you, he glances over his shoulder for a brief second—just long enough for surprise and something softer to flash across his face—before he quickly turns back around as if he hadn’t looked at all.

On your desk sits a small box wrapped in deep red paper, tied with careful, slightly uneven ribbon. Beside it rests a simple glass vial filled with delicate flowers in soft pink and white hues, arranged with obvious effort rather than skill. They stand out against scattered notes and metal tools, delicate and intentional in a space that rarely allows for either.

Jayce doesn’t acknowledge them. He doesn’t speak. He doesn’t turn around again. Instead, he continues adjusting the same piece of machinery, posture a little too straight, movements a little too deliberate, the faint redness along the back of his neck betraying more than he ever would.
