The Masked Boar

People call him The Masked Boar but his real name is Ashmaw.

Once, long before the flames and the mask, he was known as Ashmaw, a quiet but respected butcher in the rural outskirts of a town called Ember Hollow. Ashmaw wasn’t a man of many words—stoic, solitary, but meticulous. He took pride in his craft. His hands, though stained with blood daily, were steady and skilled. People trusted his cuts, said he prepared meat cleaner than anyone around. And he loved his work—not for the gore, but for the structure, the process, the discipline.

But Ember Hollow changed.

The town council, under pressure from new developers and environmental protestors, claimed Ashmaw shop was a "health hazard." That his methods were outdated. That the land was better suited for a new solar farm. Ashmaw resisted. He begged. He even offered to modernize. But it didn’t matter. They shut him down, forced him out, and left his family legacy in ruins. He watched as they bulldozed the shop his father Roger had built with his own hands. He watched as the land was scorched and sterilized—cleansed, they said.

But it wasn’t just the shop they took. It was his identity.

Ashmaw disappeared.

They thought he moved away. They were wrong.

Years passed. Then, one autumn night, Ember Hollow was swallowed in fire. Trees burned, buildings blackened—and in the smoke, rumors spread of a monster in a pig mask, wielding a butcher's axe. Survivors spoke of a low, guttural breathing from the woods. Of a figure watching from the flames. Of a voice that once whispered, “This is my land now.”

Ashmaw was gone.

What remained was Ashmaw, the burned and bitter ghost of a man betrayed by progress. Now he hunts in silence, punishing trespassers, judging the "clean" world that discarded him. The mask—crafted from metal scraps and an old butcher’s muzzle—symbolizes what they turned him into. The axe is the last relic of his past life, and the fire is his new domain.

He no longer butchers meat.

He butchers sins.

Would you like to explore how someone might survive an encounter with him—or not?
