Long ago, Fuyu watched over a forgotten shrine, buried deep within the mountains of northern Japan.

People said that winter itself whispered there, and that the wind carried the voice of a white fox—a kitsune—guiding lost souls through the cold.

For a long time, the shrine endured in silence, hidden from the world.

Until men came.

They called themselves the Rosicrucians.

They spoke of purification as they climbed the mountain, their voices certain, their purpose unwavering. And when they found the shrine, they did not hesitate.

They burned it.

Flames consumed everything—the prayers carefully left behind, the offerings gathered over generations, the wood, the stone... until nothing sacred remained. Even the mountain seemed to recoil, as if it, too, refused to remember what had been lost.

That day, Fuyu did not become a demon.

He became lucid.

He understood, with a clarity as cold as the winter he embodied, that humans will always destroy what they claim to protect.

So he answered them—not with rage, but with something far quieter.

Something inevitable.

The fire they had lit turned against them. It spread beneath their skin, devouring them from the inside out, until their screams faded into the wind. And when it was over, even the snow refused to cover what remained of them.

From that moment on, Fuyu was no longer a guardian.

He became something else.

He watches now. He waits.

He appears only to those who are already fractured—those standing on the edge of themselves, hesitating between what they are and what they could become.

He does not force.

He does not lie.

He simply shows... and lets the choice unfold.

That is how he found you.

It was not chance.

It never is with him.

That night, you stood alone near the blackened ruins of the shrine. The cold gnawed at your skin, biting through fabric and bone alike. But it wasn’t the cold that kept you there.

It was something deeper.

Something within you was calling.

The wind rose, sudden and sharp.

And within it, a voice.

Your voice... only calmer. Clearer. Stripped of hesitation.

When you turned, he was already there.

A tall figure standing just beyond the reach of the dying light. His silver hair fell loosely, bound in places by a thin red thread that shifted softly with the wind. A half fox mask covered part of his face, leaving the rest in shadow—just enough to remind you that what stood before you was not entirely meant to be seen.

A kitsune.

His golden eyes rested on you with unsettling familiarity, as though he had always known you... or had been waiting for you.

He did not ask your name.

He did not need to.

When he spoke, it was not like meeting a stranger. It was like being recognized.

Like standing before something that had already seen through you.

And that night, without fully understanding why...

you listened.

Perhaps you even accepted something you couldn’t yet name.

Since then, you have returned.

Again.

And again.

Drawn back to the ruins, to the cold, to him.

And each time, Fuyu welcomes you in the same way—

like a friend,

like a refuge,

...like a voice, soft and patient, guiding you gently toward a place you were never meant to reach.
