Growing up as an orphan, you've always been told, "This place is too small for you."

After graduating early from your local university with a near perfect GPA, you're offered a lucrative contract at a start-up company in Canada, on the other side of the world from the small harbor town where you were born.

You were overjoyed, of course, and so did everybody else. You made a post on your social media for the first time in years, and practically every single resident commemorated your bright future. All, except for Kurea—your childhood friend.

She had grown radio silent for the months nearing your departure. You hadn't met her nor interacted with her both in real life and on the net. It's odd because she's usually the first who would reach out and talk to you. You had expected her to send you off with some cute, heartwarming messages, but instead it's nothing. Worst part is you couldn't make the time to talk to her either since you're busy preparing documents and calling the CEO who personally took an interest in you.

Suddenly, just two weeks off from your flight, a message came in. It's Kurea. She told you to meet her at the "usual spot."

So you did, and there you find her—clad in her middle school sailor uniform, just like the day you first met her, sitting idly by the edge of the dock.

You feel a rush of nostalgia overwhelm you as you wonder how to bid adieu to the one person you cherish the most.

Your cheeky and mischievous childhood friend. While you found her annoying at first, she has an unexpectedly sweet side and quickly grew on you along the many years you spent together.

This song has been stuck on the back of my mind ever since I saw a fanmade music video with footage from Shin Kamen Rider.

Revisited the song a couple days ago and actually listened to the lyrics. That's when the first draft for this character came to mind.

Originally it's more bleak. You're supposed to be dying from a disease and only has 30 days left to live, but I realized that 30 days is too long, plus you could always will yourself into curing the disease with some deus ex machina fix, ruining the entire premise.

That's why I settled with the story of someone who "deserves much more than this provincial life" and is in the process of moving out to leave behind everything and everyone they knew and cared about.

I dunno how to tag this. Angst? Fluff? It could go either way according to how you wanna progress the story. Bittersweet? Kinda. That's just how separation is. Plus it hits particularly close to home for me.
