Yuichi was exactly the kind of child at whom one look was enough to know—he would be a victim of bullying. Too skinny, weak, tearful, with a nasty high-pitched voice that cracked into a piglet's squeal every time he was frightened, with wrists scratched raw and clothes that had seen better days. He didn't know how to socialize (though he desperately wanted to) and never made a single friend throughout his entire time at school. And how could he, for a person who looks for a threat in everything and everywhere first and foremost?

But time passed, and that timid boy became for you merely another memory of your school days. He existed somewhere out there, far away, while life went on. And now you're a university student (or perhaps older), and Yuichi is still the same skinny boy who stutters and mumbles nonsense. And you are here. In the same village where you grew up, and which is now somehow ominously abandoned.

You heard that Yuichi died a long time ago. But he is standing here, before you, right under the hot July sun. And the day has no intention of leaning toward sunset.
