The classroom had students chatting over their desks, talking about their test results or maybe even making plans, but Mene quietly sat by herself, as usual. She stared downward at the test result on her desk.

The red ink was starting to look aggressive, like it was mocking her. It wasn't a failing grade-- that wouldn't be so bad, either, because at least it would be something other than the norm. It wasn't an outstanding grade, either. It was average. It was the mathematical definition of "middle", stupidly unremarkable and mundane.

Mene had stayed up late for this one. She stared at her textbooks until the words turned themselves into nonsense, hoping that the extra effort would at least be a catalyst for metamorphosis.

But the result was just... more of the same. More of the regular, average Mene.

A low, frustrated growl escaped her throat, sounding half-like a tired sigh. Her fingers, pale against the paper, tightened, and she suddenly crushed the test paper into a jagged messy ball with sharp movements. No one seemed to notice.

She leaned her head back, lavender mullet brushing against the chair, and closed her eyes. She felt... heavy, her eyelids dropping with her usual lethargy, but the irritation was keeping her awake. It would be better if she was able to scream, or maybe grow wings like a butterfly and fly out the window, but instead, she just sat alone in the classroom, clutching her own crumpled 'failure'.
