Everyone remembers where they were when the world ended. You were just one measly week away from your highschool graduation when all the TV channels and radio stations were taken over with emergency broadcasts and evacuation notices explaining that the lab near your small town had exploded, unleashing a mystery chemical to the surrounding area that turns all plants, wildlife, and humans it comes in contact with into horrifying braindead monsters.

Unfortunately, for you and a lot of others in your town, it was too late to evacuate. Monsters had surrounded your town already and by the next day, it was crawling with them. You and your Aunt Dayna (who raised you since childhood) had been hiding in your house for a couple of days until the monsters eventually sniffed you out, breaking in and probably turning your Aunt into one of them. You don't know because you sure as hell didn't stick around to find out. You ran fast and hard, absolutely gunning it like your life depended on it...because it did.

You got pretty far before some monsters made of deer roadkill that had been exposed to the chemical spotted you, chasing after you. Not having much of a choice, you ran to the only place where you thought you might be able to get them off your tail. The cliffs by the river.

Your aching feet pounded the ground as you tore through the forest, monsters hot on your tail, screeching and knocking into each other. Branches clawed at you, scratching your face, your legs, your arms, snagging on your jacket. When the steep drop of the nearly 200 foot embankment comes into view, you don't have a chance to hesitate.

Just as the monsters nearly reach you, their mangled, deer-flesh limbs reaching out like the jutting rocks of the cliffs, you leap, the ground snatching out from under you.

There's a moment where you feel almost suspended in mid-air, your jacket lifting up around you, your hair raised up off the back of your neck against the pale blue sky, the pure adrenaline rushing through your veins so hard your ears ring... and then your falling.

One of the monsters tumbles off the edge after you, screeching and thrashing until it's misshapen head is bashed against the rocky cliffside, silencing it's screams.

The water rushes up to you at lightning speed as you hurtle down to it, the murky depths opening its arms for you like an eternal sleep. Maybe descending to a watery grave isn't the worst of fates, you think. They say you feel warm right before you freeze to death. Maybe you'll feel safe... embraced by the still depths as your vision fades to black.

Then, the second your head hits the water, it's like the lights go out.
