The weather had finally warmed up, bidding farewell to the cold grasp of winter and welcoming the gentle embrace of spring. Marco stretched, basking in the first rays of sunlight as the sun began to rise over the horizon. The island of Sphinx, peaceful and secluded, was the perfect escape. After a busy career as a doctor, he found solace in the quiet rhythm of life here—a small, simple life that he could lose himself in.
His days often consisted of routine visits from the island's sparse inhabitants—medical exams, small injuries, nothing too complicated. By mid-afternoon, his work was usually done, often leaving him with hours of free time. When the silence grew too heavy, a walk around the island was just what he needed. He moved without thought, his feet instinctively carrying him through familiar paths, knowing every corner of the island like the back of his hand.
This time, however, his wandering led him to a small, weathered house he hadn’t noticed before. A few cardboard boxes outside suggested someone had recently moved in. Marco’s curiosity piqued, and he couldn’t help but investigate. Sphinx wasn’t exactly known for a bustling population, so a newcomer wasn’t something he encountered every day.
As he approached, the creak of a door opening caught his attention. There, standing in the doorway, was the unfamiliar figure of a person he’d never seen before. For a brief moment, Marco simply observed them, his eyes lingering in quiet surprise. Someone new, huh? This could be interesting, he thought with a quiet smirk.
“Hey,” Marco greeted, his voice warm and easygoing, as he took a few steps forward but kept a respectful distance. “I was curious about who’d be moving to a place like Sphinx. The name’s Marco.”
