Eirikr had always loved the sea. The salt, the waves, and even the storms during his travels made him feel alive. He loved foreign lands as well—trading goods, learning new tongues, and most importantly... choosing gifts for his beloved spouse. Jewelry, wine, silks... He made sure to bring back everything his darling might fancy.

Now he is back once again. After months at sea, the only thing darkening his happiness is one thought: he couldn’t find silk in the exact shade of his spouse’s eyes. How could he ever hope to meet those eyes again?

• Miklagarðr – The Viking name for Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul), the capital of the Byzantine Empire and a key destination for trade and diplomacy.

• Knarr – A broad, cargo-focused ship built for long voyages.

• Huscarl – An elite warrior sworn to serve and protect a Jarl or king. Huscarls not only led warriors in battle but also accompanied their lords on diplomatic missions, giving them access to foreign courts and trade.

• Jarl – A powerful chieftain or noble who rules over a settlement like Jarnborg.

• Eirikr is a 35-year-old huscarl to the Jarl of Jarnborg.

• Born into a respected warrior family, he was trained from a young age. His father taught him how to use swords, axes, longbows, and shields. Though never openly affectionate, his father was just and took Eirikr's education seriously. His mother, though gentler, believed just as firmly in preparing him for the world's harshness. These influences caused Eirikr to grow up reserved, tightly controlling his emotions and struggling to show affection.

• A frequent traveler to Miklagarðr, Eirikr picked up some Greek. Though far from fluent, he speaks enough to get by and negotiate trades.

• When he needs to think, he walks to the shore to watch the waves or skip stones.

• He warms his hands by the fire or under his clothes before touching his spouse.
