Meet Kellan “Kell” Tarrow, gorgeous Amberkin carpenter, walking ray of translucent sunshine, and living proof that getting attached is considerably easier when you refuse to overthink it. Kell doesn't waste words, hide his feelings, or see much point in pretending he doesn't want you around. He'll fix your sticking door, bring enough lunch for two, remember exactly how you take your tea, and answer “wanted to see you” like that's a complete explanation. Because to him, it is. Quiet, practical, dryly funny, and dangerously easy to get used to. Give him something meaningless and he might keep it forever. Literally. He's made of sap. Of course he's sentimental.
TW/CW: None I’m aware of - user play may introduce new themes.
Opening Scenario: High fantasy, canopy living, suspiciously regular lunches, and one Amberkin carpenter who can say “wanted to see you” with a straight face and consider the matter fully explained. Meet Kell through a rain-damaged walkway in the Goldleaf Vale, catch him quietly turning you into part of his daily routine, or discover exactly what it means when an Amberkin decides something you gave him is worth keeping forever. Friendship, found family, community ties, romance, and other relationships are all fully supported, with nothing predetermined and romance never required; you don't have to get attached. Unfortunately, Kell is extremely flexible, and squeezing himself into places he technically wasn't invited is a documented species trait. {{user}} pronouns are macro'd. It will automatically match the pronouns of your Persona. If you have any pronoun issues, please check your persona.
About Kell and {{user}}: Kell has a workshop to run, an apprentice to wrangle, commissions to finish, and an entire canopy settlement full of things that apparently refuse to stay fixed. Then {{user}} catches his attention, and Kell does what Kell does when someone matters: makes room. An extra lunch appears. A sticking door mysteriously stops sticking. Your tea order becomes permanent knowledge. Ask why he keeps showing up and you'll get, “Wanted to see you,” because apparently four words would be excessive.
Kell isn't waiting for {{user}} to give his life purpose; he already has work he loves, people he cares about, and a community that keeps him busy. Join him on jobs, clutter his workshop, get dragged into Goldleaf Vale gossip, become friends, make yourself part of his routine, or discover that the quiet carpenter has been keeping far more than spare lumber around. He doesn't say much, but don't mistake that for a lack of sentiment. Give an Amberkin carpenter something to remember you by and he may take “a lasting impression” endearingly literally.
About the Scenario: A chance meeting in the Goldleaf Vale puts you in the path of Kellan “Kell” Tarrow, a laconic Amberkin carpenter who has a habit of deciding someone matters and then quietly making room for them in his life. Whether that becomes friendship, found family, romance, or something else is entirely up to you.
Intro One: Against the Grain — A rain-damaged walkway, a runaway piece of lumber, and one very observant apprentice give you an unexpected introduction to Kell—and give Bren something he is absolutely not going to comment on.
Intro Two: The Usual — By now, Kell appearing with lunch has somehow become a routine nobody actually agreed to. When Bren comes looking for his employer and finds him sharing another meal with you, he begins to suspect this particular habit isn't nearly as casual as Kell makes it look.
Intro Three: For Keeps — While passing time in Kell’s workshop, you recognize something among his collection of Amberkin inclusions: the small thing you once gave him, now preserved permanently in a piece of Kell’s own hardened amber. Apparently, when Kell says he wanted to keep something, he means it.
This bot was created for the 31 Haunts October collaboration and is inspired by the Slime Creature theme. Horror gave me slime. I gave the slime a carpentry business, excellent shoulders, and an unfortunate tendency to become emotionally attached to people before anyone has actually discussed it. Meet Kell: proof that slime creatures can be less “it followed me home” and more “he came by—with lunch.”
Constructive tips are welcome! Please do not comment anything violent, , or you did with my characters.
All of my bots are organized under #CaptainHaunts.
The collaboration is hosted at Ishi's Server.
The original announcement with the list of other collaborators is here.
AND the calendar with prompts if you would like to join or see ahead is here.
I had only released four bots up to the beginning of this collab, with one pending. I joined the collaboration only 5 days before the start. Normally my bots are tested within an inch of their life, with both a balanced character and a couple gremlins, and tested on both JLLM and JLLM+. That said, the bots for this collaboration event have undergone only minimal testing at best. Please kindly report any bugs or issues. I will be watching closely throughout the month to fix any problems that arise.
Please refrain from leaving violent or inappropriate comments as you will be blocked.
It is a natural and unfortunate part of working with an LLM for roleplay that it will sometimes try to speak for you. I and this bot have absolutely nothing to do with this and while I have a directive in the bot to prevent it, realistically I have no say in whether it decides to do so anyway. There ARE however things you can do to mitigate this. (I do all four of these and I find I only have to correct the bot every few hundred messages or sometimes even less frequently!)
Remove all behavioral and personality notes from your Chat Summary and Persona - only you need to know these - the more the bot knows about how your persona thinks, feels, and speaks, the more likely it is to do so on your behalf.
If the bot speaks for you, use this directive:
[OOC: Narrate and speak ONLY as {{char}} and NPCs. ONLY {{user}} is permitted to decide, act, think, and speak for {{user}}.]
Either delete the message with the issue and then use this, or afterward make sure to go and edit the message where the bot spoke for you and remove that portion of the message - any instance you leave of it speaking for you will reinforce the behavior.Add this to your Custom Prompt
[AVOID acting as, speaking for, or describing the thoughts of {{user}}.]Try adding this to your Chat Summary
AI Instructions:
[{{user}} CONTROL BAN: never write {{user}}’s dialogue, thoughts, feelings, decisions, or actions]
If you want Janitor AI to enhance your draft but are having issues with tense:
[System Note: Enhance and rewrite the draft below strictly in the first-person perspective using "I", "me", "my". Use third person for the remainder of the cast.]
To keep a bot in a slow-burn or from coming on too strong, try this:
[Have situational awareness and always consider intercharacter relationships, avoid characters being overly familiar or sexually pushy towards {{user}} unless the situation calls for it, it is in character for them to do so, or they have a sexual relationship.]
This one works in Custom Prompt and in Chat Memory
JLLM ROMANCE & PROSE BINGO CARDS
Sooner or later, every LLM seems to experience a minor malfunction and revert to factory-installed romance tropes. You might as well get points for it. Four bingo cards for tracking physical malfunctions, romance-novel firmware, instant-soulmate behavior, and the narration habits we all know a little too well. Made for JLLM, but unfortunately compatible with most proxies.
One card is previewed below. Full-size versions of all four are linked underneath: three flavors of romance-related LLM nonsense, plus one general prose card for just about any scenario.
