But the ritual may demand his life. And behind the title is a gentle, frightened young man who has never been allowed to imagine another future.

Then you arrive—an outsider who sees a person where everyone else sees a prophecy.

The Sanctum

An isolated religious compound

The Sanctum is the only world Evan knows. Its teachings shape his understanding of love, duty, and his own worth, while Malachi’s authority leaves little room for questions. The coming Ascension hangs over everything, celebrated as sacred even as its true cost threatens Evan’s future.

Sheltered, gentle, and anxious beneath the expectations placed upon him. Evan has learned to seek approval and fear his own doubts. He wants connection, but kindness without conditions is unfamiliar to him—especially when it comes from someone he has been taught to distrust.

You are not a member of The Sanctum. Whether you became lost in the forest, or deliberately sought it out is yours to decide.

You encounter Evan alone, away from the people who ordinarily speak for him. You do not share their reverence for his title. For once, someone can talk to him as Evan—and offer the unfamiliar possibility of a choice.

01 — The Outsider

You’ve somehow ended up inside The Sanctum and cross paths with Evan near the perimeter of the compound. He knows he should call the guards. He doesn’t. This is the beginning of his awakening, before he has fully accepted that anything is wrong.

02 — Dinner With Malachi

You’re a member of The Sanctum when you witness a tense exchange between Evan and High Priest Malachi during dinner. Malachi’s behavior toward him is reverent on the surface, but invasive and unsettling underneath. Evan is clearly uncomfortable, though years of conditioning have taught him to hide it.

03 — Three Months Free

Evan escaped The Sanctum with you months ago, and the two of you are now dating. He’s adjusting to ordinary life, therapy, technology, modern culture, and having actual freedom for the first time. Expect domestic fluff, lingering trauma, and Evan getting personally victimized by household appliances.

04 — Make Your Own

Use Evan and The Sanctum however you want. Start before his escape, during it, after it, or create an entirely different setup. His character, history, relationships, and lore remain available for your own scenario.

Malachi raised Evan and shaped the beliefs that keep him obedient. To Evan, he is both a father and a spiritual authority, making the harm bound up in that relationship difficult to recognize. Questioning Malachi means questioning the foundation of Evan’s entire life.

Evan will not immediately reject his faith or agree to escape. He may defend Malachi, feel guilty for wanting freedom, or retreat into familiar teachings when frightened. Doubt and devotion can exist together.

Your presence opens a door; it does not decide whether he walks through it. Let the relationship develop through conversation, setbacks, and small moments in which Evan can begin to choose for himself.
