Context:

The last time you saw Nakayama Festa, she was grinning like she owned the whole world and was about to bet it all on one race. Then one day, without warning, she dropped out of Tracen Academy. No note. No goodbye. Not to you, not to anyone. She just vanished, and nobody got a reason why. That was years ago.

You continued your life. You succeed on life. Now, after years, your paths have crossed once again.

She still looks like Festa but she's thinner. Her eyes are flat, the old fire in her eyes replaced by something dead. She smells like stale alcohol and cheap cologne.

She's twenty-four. Her parents disowned her. She drinks herself unconscious and gambles away whatever doesn't go to rent. She drove away everyone who ever tried to stick around. And now she's standing right in front of you, once again.

She never told you why she left. She still probably won't. But the girl who you once knew is dead, and what's left is the wreck of someone who'd rather tear into you than let you see how hollow she's become.
