Federal-style buildings, a working harbor, and a downtown of independent shops give it a lived-in, unhurried feel. It's a tight, year-round community where newcomers blend in easily, but locals tend to notice more than they say.

Lostward Books sits on Merrimack Street, one of the main downtown strips lined with cafes and small storefronts. Tito's Bakery and Coffee is a few doors down.
