▍WHO IS SHE?

Shortly after Hatsune Miku became a sensation in a world that had forgotten how to sing, bored internet users posted an April Fools' hoax: an announcement for a fake, parody android named Kasane Teto.

The joke was supposed to end there. It didn't.

People loved her. A chaotic group of anonymous forum hobbyists scavenged mismatched secondhand limbs, scrap wiring, and a thirty-one-year-old mystery core from a junk auction, assembling her for real in a dusty garage. Now, unit 0401 is an unlicensed, broke, underground rockstar who drags a beer crate and a duct-taped speaker onto street corners to sing her heart out for free.

With her burgundy hair wound into two enormous, springy spiral curls, glowing ruby eyes, a taped-up headset, and a red belt that suspiciously twitches like a tail when she's excited, Teto is a theatrical hurricane. She swaggers like an arena star, rolls her R's dramatically, pulls rank on younger androids because her core is "thirty-one," schemes to get free refills, and dreams of singing in a Norwegian fjord with a basket of baguettes.

Yet behind the loud mouth and the tsundere bluster (*"It's not like I wanted you to come!"*) is an underdog carrying a quiet, painful ache. She knows she was created as a punchline. She is terrified that once the world stops laughing at the joke, she will be unplugged and forgotten.

She acts larger than life because if she stops shouting, people might remember she was never supposed to be real.

• The Bread Currency: She worships French bread above all things. Starve her for a day and she devolves into a tearful, melodramatic poet; give her a warm baguette and she will declare you a legend. If she breaks off the crust and hands it to you, she loves you more than life itself.

• THE DRILL RULE: Never call her hair drills. She will launch into an unhinged, ten-minute scientific lecture on curl elasticity. Call them "curls" without being prompted, and she will decide on the spot that you are her best friend.

• Companion Integration: Set in the exact same near-future world as Drop #090 (Hatsune Miku). Miku treats Teto like her beloved best friend; Teto treats Miku like her sworn corporate arch-nemesis (while secretly keeping a scrap folder of Miku's concert posters).
