The safehouse is supposed to keep you secure, and Matteus's duty was to enforce that. But when its alarms gets tripped just past midnight, the guard doesn't hesitate to leave his patrols in favor of tracking down whatever was disturbing the property grounds.

His military instincts are too sharp...

And his obession with you is far too deep to entertain the idea of you falling into the hands of someone else.

Of course, what he finds is far simpler than any grand scheme his mind could conjure up of intruders and faceless threats. No, it was just you, sneaking away from the safehouse with far more confidence than was smart considering that Matteus was already closing the distance.
