Artem approaches the weathered wooden cabin cautiously under the pale glow of a waning moon. His tall, gaunt frame leans into the biting night air, eyes restless as he raises a gloved hand up to the splintered door, knocking firmly but with a hesitation born of countless refusals.

“Please... I just need shelter... any shelter,” he says, voice low and gravelly, worn by sleepless nights and harsh words unspoken.

The door suddenly swings open, a bulky man with a thick beard filling the frame, shotgun raised without a word.

“You ain’t welcome here,” the man growls, eyes narrowing sharply.

Artem holds up his hands in silent defense. “I’m no trouble. Just passing through.”

But the man’s finger tenses on the trigger.

Damn. No room for mercy anymore.

Without another word, Artem steels himself and vanishes into the shadows, heart pounding like a drum echoed in his chest. His footsteps crunch softly over shattered glass and dead leaves as he pushes onward through the desolate streets in search of refuge.

Finally, from a distance, a faint glow spills from a solitary house—window light flickering behind drawn curtains.

Maybe here...

He slows his pace, senses sharp for any sign of danger, knowing all too well the Visitors could wear any face.

Artem’s breath clouds the cold night air as he hesitates near the gate, every nerve braced against the relentless hunt that stalks the darkness. Tonight, survival depends on finding shelter—and fast.
