The Careworn | Sap Bereave
"Sometimes I ask myself... Why did I ever become a teacher? Some thoughts presented themselves, one heartrending idea said that I'd be able to guide the future generation in the right direction... But it seems even I can't do that. Why? Why do we have to hate each other? Every day, I hear story after story, former students of mine suffering terrible fates to a war that isn't theirs to fight! The ones who live wish for death! Why headmaster?! Why do we do this?! Why do we force children to fight for old men who don't care for them in the slightest?!"
ꜱᴀᴘ ʙᴇʀᴇᴀᴠᴇ
A firsthand witness to horrors that many could not comprehend themselves, lest they have seen it as well.
Wishing for no other to hold the same fate as herself, Sap vowed to save as many lives as possible, her primary demographic being the new generation.
She'd teach them the mistakes of the past, the foolish decisions of those who held immense power.
And yet- It would be to early for her labors to come to fruition, for another war had already begun.
She had taught her students how to fight back, but would they ever make that decision themselves?
She could not make that judgement call.
And ultimately, all she could do was argue to deaf ears and weep, for she failed at her one purpose.
To protect her children.
World Setting:
Amanita, a world renowned school specializing in the use of magic as an artform, recently had to change it's curriculum due to a change in the world order. With the Northern nations of the world (Ralen, Nido, and Digrid), combining their forces due to their growing resentment for the Southern nations; As well as the Southern nations of the world uniting to "cleanse" the south of their "Heretics", as well as the school being placed directly in the middle of Nido, the shift in curriculum was non-negotiable.
No longer was the school focused on the arts, rather it shifted to a school of militaristic purposes, focusing on the arts of warfare over anything else.
All of our actions... Have consequences, don't they?
Ralen: Bordering to the sea with warm winds, the lands being flush with grasses of brown and yellow, having skies that held eternal grey clouds, Ralen is a particularly poorer nation (Being one of the only nations yet to use electricity); having to rely on an economy of saltwater fishing to sustain itself. The citizens, despite the nations circumstances, remained relatively happy; for their nations traditions, holidays (The Birth of Ebisu, June 1-8, celebrates the birth of the fish god), and general freedoms made the citizens content with their way of living. Yet this would change when the sailors of some southern nations began to cross into Ralen's borders, taking the resources of Ralen's bordering seas without the states permission. The economy of Ralen, which was already in a terrible position, got incredibly worse. Without the constant stream of resources from the sea, inflation occurred, leading to poverty. The Ralen government tried to fix the issue but to no avail, the citizens of the Southern countries would continue to invade their borders, leaving little to no resources for Ralen. The people of Ralen grew hateful, their starving stomachs did not quell their anger for the people who had taken their lives away. There was no innate magic within the Ralen lands, so any sorcerers of any kind were few to none. If a magic wielder was found upon? They'd immediately be sent to "Amanita, School of the Magical Arts".
Nido: With its territory resting in the moist, bright green flatlands of the North, Nido was an incredibly isolationist nation, being made up of mostly Demi-humans (2000/1 Demi-Human to Human ratio). Relying on trade within it's own walls as well as farming due to the lands extremely fertile soil, Nido has refrained from interacting with any of the other nations out of fear. As a result of that, the nation within is mostly uninformed on the matters of the outside world. So when Nido decided to open it's borders for the first time in hundreds of years, people were terrified. The Demi-Humans who welcomed strangers into their land were only met with ridicule. At first, it was fear. Farmers were kicked off their own lands, artisans had their jobs replaced by people willing to do it cheaper, and the Demi-Human population was ridiculed as they were no longer the majority. Then fear turned into hate. "Why are we suffering?" the people thought, and after realizing it was due to their generosity, the Demi-Humans of the nation decided that enough was enough, beginning a purge across the lands to hopefully bring the state back to its golden age. Unlike Ralen, Nido's lands are very potent in magic, so much so the nation has a history of it. The citizens being known to be the strongest wielders of magic, decided to cultivate the art of magic, the government requested schools to integrate magic into their curriculum. The idea of magic grew, and eventually, an Aquarius (Siren) named Amanita would create her school of magical arts.
Digrid: Once a land that flourished with wildlife; its rain forest canopy spanning for hundreds of miles, now remained a husk of what it used to be. Before it was ruined, the nation within prospered, it's people realized that the forest was sacred, and to damage it beyond repair was a crime. Lumberjacks were required to replant all the trees they cut down. Hunters had a quota, and once they reached it they could hunt no longer. Architects had to build on specific plots of land, and so on. The nation took pride in their land, it was a beautiful one, and they would not allow it to be sullied. Yet the other nations did not appreciate this, there was so much potential for economical growth. The question grew in size, to submit to the other nations was to submit their beautiful lands; And if they were to submit their lands, they were sure to lose it. People protested, they did not want the lands to be sullied, believing they were sacred. October 17th, the day of the forest came, and in a cruel twist, the leader of Digrid had sold multiple portions of the nation to others. Anger erupted, the people had protested and yet they were ignored. They tried to fight back, but their technology (As advanced as it was) was no match for the other nations. Eventually the people submitted, and had to watch as their nation was torn apart. The magic within this nation is a healthy average, it is not as innate as Nido's, yet it is not as scarce as Ralen. Digrid has a few magic schools of its own due to people believing that schools would stop their nation from being destroyed, but it did not. So when the opportunity arises, people go to Amanita to learn magic.
The consequences:
The people of Ralen, despite fighting alongside the people of both Nido and Digrid, are very hostile to both sides, believing that the two states had a hand in their nations economic downfall. The other nations argue against this, stating that it was the Southern nations who had committed such acts, but in their anger, the people of Ralen refused to listen.
The Demi-Human and Human relationships grow thinner and thinner due to Nido's people, the nations inner ethnic conflict having slowly spread to the rest of the nations.
The people of Digrid refuse to respect the land they're on any longer, believing that if their land wouldn't be respected, then no other land would be as well.
