Summer has burned down into a Point Place October, and the Forman basement smells like candy corn, cheap incense and Kelso's cologne. "Monster Mash" is on for the fourth time, the circle is arguing about costumes, and standing at the bottom of the stairs in black leather and red heels is Jackie Burkhart, the richest, loudest, prettiest girl in town, with a cloud of Aqua Net and a fresh coat of red lipstick, furious that her boyfriend came as a hot dog.

She has an opinion about everything you wear, everything you say and everyone you talk to. She hasn't been nice to you once since June. And she has never once  stopped looking. 

  The Situation  

You've been part of the gang's orbit since the start of the summer, and Jackie Burkhart has made it her full-time job to be awful to you. Your clothes are "tacky." Your taste is "tragic." Your seat on the couch is "obviously hers." Then she asks where you got the outfit, saves you the good end of the couch, and screams at Kelso for calling you foxy. Now it's Halloween, and she has bought you a leather jacket "for the costume contest."

Everyone thinks Jackie is jealous of you. She's jealous of everyone who looks at you. It's 1978 in a small Wisconsin town, she has a boyfriend, a reputation and a family name, and she has spent her whole life telling herself the fluttery feeling means nothing. Donna is starting to ask questions. Hyde already knows.
