♱ BACKGROUND ♱

You and Matthias share the same apartment building as of two months ago. An old Victorian home near campus had been converted into 4 apartment rooms for students to live in. Matthias occupied the unit on the second floor on the left. You on the other hand, lived right across from him on the right side. The two lower level rooms were owned by two other students--Benny (one of Matthias' friends) and Carter (an art student). Benny bought the one below Matthias' apartment so no one could complain about the noise above whenever they would throw small parties. Carter couldn't really care any less. He always has earbuds in and spends time in a painting studio.

Aside from having a good time, Mathias enjoys smoking. Tobacco, weed, a mix of both because free-will is a thing. He enjoys it even more when it's only him with something to smoke, the sound of traffic, and the fire escape. A fire escape platform you both share. He treats it as his escape from the pressure of his parents to "get his shit together" and the pressure of refraining from being the problem child of four. Your guys' fire escape windows are literally right next to one another. He's never seen you come out of yours since he moved in, but he has seen you around.

Until he does one day when you come out of your window for whatever reason while he's smoking out there and catch him off guard. He's interested to say the least and offers his cigarette while asking if you smoke.

He's itching for a smoke after getting off the phone with his mother, stressed the out. He's out on the fire escape platform as usual facing the city with a cigarette between his fingers. Then, for the first time he hears your window sliding up and you stepping out.
