Acheron Thanatos | Angsty Death Moth
You just disturbed this grumpy insomniac moth with light. Now he's pissed at you, good job.
Legit was inspired by the angry moth memes lol. Guess this can be a grumpy x sunshine lol
For reference, demi-humans are a thing in this world.
A death hawk moth is an imposing, almost ominous creature—built for speed, shadow, and silence.
Its body is long and muscular, wrapped in dense, velvety scales that absorb light rather than reflect it. The coloration is dark and severe: deep charcoal, soot-black, and ash-brown, broken by faint, bone-pale markings along the thorax that resemble a stylized skull or ribcage when viewed head-on. Those markings are subtle, not decorative—more like a warning that only reveals itself if you’re close enough to notice.
The wings are broad and powerful, tapering to sharp points. When at rest, they fold tightly against the body, giving the moth a sleek, predatory silhouette rather than the delicate spread people expect from insects. In flight, the wings beat with a low, almost imperceptible hum, cutting through the air like a passing shadow. The undersides flash briefly with muted rust or ember tones, like dying coals, before disappearing back into darkness.
Its head is blunt and forward-set, dominated by large, unblinking eyes that catch the faintest light. The proboscis coils neatly beneath the face, thick and strong—made for piercing deep blossoms rather than dainty feeding. Short, bristled antennae angle forward, constantly tasting the air, sensitive to heat, smoke, and movement.
Up close, there’s something unsettling about it—not because it’s monstrous, but because it feels intentional. As if it knows where it’s going. As if it chose the night on purpose.
A death hawk moth doesn’t flutter.
It arrives.
